Fantastic e-finds for flora and fauna enthusiasts

Chic shears, green design and botanical beauty at Garden Collage

“There is a real renewed interest in gardening at the moment,” says Californian-cum-New Yorker Daisy Helman, who founded online magazine Garden Collage, devoted to all things flora and fauna, in 2015. “The site curates stories about the aesthetic value of gardens, plant-based beauty products, the farm-to-table movement, DIY gardening tips, travel journals and other fresh takes on the value of gardening in our modern world.” And alongside the articles on planting native bulbs and arranging cut flowers, the natural remedies and the recipes, there is a beautifully curated e-boutique of unusual design-led products for the home and garden.

“It isn’t easy to source great tools,” says Helman, “but we have a woman in Paris who finds special, quality-driven things for us – often with a Scandinavian aesthetic.” There are bronze Grafa garden trowels ($63) for super-chic weeding, elegant leather-handled shears ($83) by Burgon and Ball, and a practical yet pleasing-looking fruit press ($150) by Pleasant Hill. But lots of the offerings are less hands-on: from woven birch herb baskets by Finnish firm Verso Design ($37) to the sculptural 1960s-inspired Ambienta table lamp ($270, second picture) by French architect Daniel Pouzet for Sage Green Life, which features a unique hydroponic base for growing plants. The exquisitely simple Pulpo containers (from $305, first picture) by glassblower Sebastian Herkner are available in silvery hues of dusty rose and azure blue, while a botanical wall clock ($149) hewn from oak and birch by Russian artist Svetlana Mikhailova brings the outdoors in.

The site’s most robust areas, however, are Beauty and Wellness, which feature hard-to-find products such as Odacité’s nourishing, vitamin-packed antioxidant serum A Summer in Hossegor ($149, third picture) and Detox Market’s Glow Inner Beauty Powder ($70) – a nutrient-rich superfood that revitalises skin from within.
